Starting Out

When Carrie and I started A Guy In A Truck back in 2017, our goal was simple: provide honest, reliable floor care and treat people the way we’d want to be treated. We also knew we’d need to be flexible. Business has a way of throwing surprises at you—and it sure did.

Pivoting in 2020

During 2020, when so many doors were closed, we pivoted into cleaning large commercial office spaces. That helped keep us going, but we still found ourselves asking: “What else can we offer that people really need year-round?”

The Demand for Air Duct Cleaning

That’s when air duct cleaning started popping up on our radar. More and more customers were asking about it. At first, we referred them to a trusted local company—but that company was always booked out weeks or months in advance. Clearly, there was demand.

So in October 2022, after much thought, we bought our first duct cleaning system. It did the job, but wow—it was a beast. Each unit weighed over 200 pounds, required two techs to lug it up and down stairs, and left our team sore after every job. The frustration built up, and honestly, I started to wonder if we’d made a mistake.

A Customer Who Changed Everything

Then, in April 2025, something happened that changed my perspective. A single mom called us out because her child suffered from severe allergies. She said, “I knew I needed to have this done, but I didn’t know who to trust with all the scams out there. Then I saw that A Guy In A Truck offered air duct cleaning—and I know you guys!”

That hit me. People weren’t just asking for duct cleaning; they were asking us to do it—because they trusted us. Still, the equipment was a constant battle, and I told Carrie more than once that I was ready to sell it all and walk away.

That day, as I poured out my thoughts and frustrations to Carrie, she looked me in the eye and said: “Air duct cleaning is a great service. People are calling because they trust us. So what would it take to make you excited about it again?”

Without hesitation, I said, “A Duct Truck.”

The Turning Point

That was the turning point. In May 2025, we reached out to HyperVac Technologies and ordered their newest H2 Duct Truck, built on a Ford Transit frame. By the end of June, it was in our parking lot—just in time to be lettered and proudly shown off in the 4th of July parade.

The Game-Changer

Let me tell you: this truck has been a game-changer! Compared to the old portable units, the Duct Truck allows us to:

• Complete a cleaning with just one technician if needed
  
• Protect our team from back strain and injury
  
• Demonstrate to customers that this is a service we’ve fully invested in
  
• Drive around with a rolling billboard that proudly carries our name
  
  

The power of the system blew us away, and the storage made organizing hoses and tools effortless. Best of all—no more hauling massive machines up and down stairs. It felt like a fresh start, almost like launching a new business within our business.

Looking Ahead

Now, instead of dreading these jobs, I look forward to them. I’ve even claimed the Duct Truck as “my truck.” It’s not just a tool—it’s a reminder of how far we’ve come, how much we’ve grown, and how much we still care about helping families breathe easier in their homes.

So here’s to a new Air-a in duct cleaning—and to many years ahead serving the Fox Valley area with a service people can count on.
